TEST!

Well we had our big test today! I think in the end I made it a little too long, but I will take that into account when I correct it. Please give me feedback on what you thought about the exam.
Next week I'll give the exam back along with an evaluation of some kind.
One last thing--at the moment it seems very unlikely  that we'll have any class in July. It's a pity, as I have really enjoyed our time together, but I suppose we can look forward to next year...
Have a good week!

Proverbs and Test Review

Today we reviewed for the test, did a dialogue using proverbs, and acted out a skit on conflict (ferran and rosa--new puppy) (nuria and esther--mother-in-law)
We also did a quick review of the euphemisms on page 32 (could be on the test).
Vocabulary: nursing home, don't beat around the bush, animal shelter, etc.(if you have notes, please post!).

Proverbs:
Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
Don't count your chickens before they hatch.
Look before you leap
Beggars can't be choosers.
Every cloud has a silver lining
The early bird gets the worm.
A stitch in time saves nine.
He who hesitates is lost.
Don't cry over spilled milk.
He who laughs last, laughs longest.
You can't teach an old dog new tricks.
Every dog has its day.
When the going gets tough, the tough get going.
Life is like a box of chocolates.
and more...

Desert, dessert, desert?

Stress is on the first syllable:
desert (noun) (dez' rt) A dry, often sandy region of little rainfall
Middle English, from Old French, from Late Latin desertum, from neuter past participle of deserere.

Stress is on the 2nd syllable:

desert (verb) (di-zûrt') To leave empty or alone; abandon. (noun is deserter, adjective is deserted--uninhabited, abandoned.
French déserter, from Late Latin desertare, frequentative of Latin deserere, to abandon : de- + serere, to join; see ser- in Indo-European roots.
